Mahindra to Launch Electric XUV300 in 2023 with Longer Body and Higher Power

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has officially announced the launch of the all-electric version of the XUV300 in the first quarter of 2023. The production version of the XUV300 EV could be renamed the XUV400, and it is expected to be unveiled in the second half of 2022, with a market launch planned for January 2023. The electric version of the XUV300 will be longer than the standard version, at 4.2 meters in length, offering more boot space.

The powertrain and battery details are yet to be revealed, but it is confirmed that the single motor will drive the front wheels, producing a minimum output of 150hp and fed by high-density NMC pouch cells. This would give the electric XUV300 a slight advantage in power over the Tata Nexon EV Max, which produces 143hp. The challenge for Mahindra is to secure a steady supply of batteries from LG Chem, specifically developed for XUV400, which has been delayed due to the battery maker's inability to ramp up volumes.

The XUV400 is expected to have the latest connected tech and ADAS features, which will be similar to the super successful XUV700. The electric XUV300 concept was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, three years before the production version's actual launch, and it will be crucial for establishing Mahindra as a credible player in the EV market.
